CONTROL THE SENSES
Many people when they start listening to Satsang and you speak about the senses, they start getting nervous. "My whole life is the senses, I hope they don't make me disconnect from my senses, that's the last thing that I want. I just want to know God, I don't want to disconnect from my senses."
Senses are a distraction to seeing God. Then when they start to understand this they see the validity in conquering the senses. Not to give them up forever entirely, just to gain control of them.
No scripture, no Guru says that you need to destroy the senses. Just that you need to control the senses.
It would be terrible to become enlightened but in the process you lose your eyesight, so you're blind. Then you lose your nose so you can't smell, then you lose your ears, so you can't hear your family calling for you. Then you can't walk, you can't talk, can't eat..
So it doesn't mean that you lose all of these, it means that you're able to control them. You use them when you need them and don't use them when you don't need them.
You don't need them in meditation. So at the time of meditation ~ You go and put your senses on the shelf. And after meditation, you can pick up your senses and put them back on for your activities.
That is how it's done. You definitely disconnect from the senses which means that they're no longer an active part of your body, while you meditate.
I'm giving you an idea right there about how serious meditation is. So you go into meditation to such a degree that you can't hear, you can't see, you can't smell, you can't touch, you can't feel. You can't think about yesterday, you can't think about tomorrow. You don't have any emotions for your thoughts. And you don't think. Your thoughts become depleted and slowly stop.
"Well what kind of experience would I have without that?"... Well that's what you're invited to come and see for yourself.
Throughout the millions of years, there hasn't been anybody that decided "I want to have it all back. I'll give you God in exchange for all of my senses back." Cause you know that the senses are going to fade as you get older.
So if you didn't do any Spiritual Yoga Practice at all...as you get older, all the things that you love so much.. they're all going to slowly be reclaimed . Your hearing's going to go, your sight is going to go, your locomotion is going to go.. your ability to see and experience and feel the way that you did in your youth is all going to go.
What's waiting for you?
Well, fear is waiting for you because you don't know where you're going. And you have no idea if you've behaved righteously in the eyes of God, or what realm you'll be going to in the afterlife.
Compare that to somebody who practiced ardently their whole life to see God, to feel God, to hear God, to realize God ~ And actually did in meditation practice. And during the day when they were active, they would Live for God. They would act as God wanted them to act. And they would do as God wanted them to do. They lived a selfless life. They lived a life for the good of others, for the comfort of others..to supply the needs for others.
