IS KRIYA YOGA BREATH CONTROL? DO I HAVE TO CONTROL THE BREATH TO ACHIEVE KUMBAKA?. DO I NEED TO DESTROY MY MIND AS SOME SAY?
"A man achieves Kumbaka without any yogic practice if he but weeps for God" ~ Paramhamsa Ramakrishna
Kriya yoga has nothing to do with the breath. Kumbaka is not a pause or retention of breath. Kriya yoga is Prana control. It is Prana control not breath control that was almost lost in the dark ages until Babaji revived it. Breath control was practiced during the Kali Yuga just as it is by many worldly people today. Breath control is physical (worldly). Prana control (Kriya Pranayama) is spiritual. Breathlessness (kumbaka) is deathlessness.
The mind does not need to be destroyed. The mind is needed to function in the world. The mind needs to be purified and strengthened. When the heart is purified of vasanas the mind is purified of impure vrittis. <3
